Murder on the Flying Scotsman by Jessica Baker
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I really liked this book. But, for a mystery & detective novel, I had expected something a bit more fast-paced.
The plot is excellent with lots of suspense & drama. The characters are perfectly in sync with the time period. The descriptions of the locations, both on & off the train, are visually delightful. If it had been just a simple romance I would have given it 5 stars for sure. The pacing was just too slow for a cozy mystery. There is so much potential for action & excitement even in the Edwardian era. But I still recommend this book to all fans of historical cozy murder mysteries.
When traveling to Scotland, Lady Thea stumbles on a dead body in her first class compartment. Her own maid, Molly, is arrested when the police find out that the dead man was Molly\’s husband & the girl has no alibi. Lady Thea is determined to find the real killer & prove Molly\’s innocence, despite her own fears & her zero experience in investigative procedures. While she finds unlikely but effective friends in an American lady, a Scotland Yard detective & a newspaper reporter, she is also being stalked by the real killer who never left the train.
